This tree native to North America is a fast grower that leaves out relatively late in the Spring, and produces beautiful blossom that are edible. Black Locust is in the legume family and has been reported to fix atmospheric nitrogen in the ground. It is a fast growing tree, some specimen that we planted in 2014 were 2m (~6ft) tall in 2015. Black Locust will coppice readily and make excellent building material or firewood. This multi-purpose tree is definitely a great addition to any food forests.
